TEACHERS’ EMOLUMENT: AFFECT THEIR PERFORMANCE

HERMIDA R. MARTIN

Teaching profession is one of the most challenging professions in our country. Also, teachers’ emoluments are always one of the major issues. However, in most countries, teachers are satisfied with their salaries, working conditions and other factors which mainly the reasons for this profession to continually grow. On the other hand, some countries are not allotting enough budget for their teachers, which is why many leave this profession within the few years. If teachers’ emolument is enough, there is no reason for them to go abroad and to leave our country. They can spend their time with their families. And most importantly, the department can expect quality education through high salary.

The professional conditions of teaching also influence teacher motivation and corrosion. Heavy workloads and large class sizes can significantly demoralize teachers. Teaching is also becoming more challenging due to increased working demands to each complex skills, heightened control by higher ups, and decreased time to plan and collaborate with colleagues. However, a supportive professional work environment as well as positive relationships within the community can reduce these pressures and improve teacher’s motivation and effectiveness.

In our society, public school teachers receive compensation according to a salary schedule that is nearly entirely determined by their position and their years in service rendered. This system, however, has seen increasing attacks from policymakers and researchers in recent years. Several school systems have considered adding a component to the wage structure that directly compensates teachers based upon the academic gains made by the students in a teacher’s care, at least partly measured by student scores on standardized tests. That’s why our department have adopted such “performance based-bonus” policies.

The focus on performance based-bonus policy recognizes the consensus that teacher quality is one of the most important parts of the education process. It is granted to government personnel in line with their contribution to the department’s accomplishments of its overall targets and commitments. But before they grant this, teachers should do first the needed documents required for.
