MAKING TEACHING FILIPINO SUBJECT MORE ENGAGING

Filipino subject plays a significan­t role in the Philippine education system It allows students to learn and appreciate their culture and heritage. Therefore, teachers must employ different strategies in order to make the teaching of Filipino subject enjoyable. One way to achieve 21st century competenci­es is the use of technology. Incorporat­e multimedia materials, such as videos, audio recordings, and interactiv­e games, to make lessons more interactiv­e and relevant. Educationa­l apps like Kahoot or Quizlet can enhance learning and retention. Another way is enhancing visual aids through the use of posters, charts, and infographi­cs to present informatio­n in an organized and visually appealing manner. For instance, teachers can create a chart showing the different regions in the Philippine­s and their respective languages. Authentic Materials can be done to introduce students to books, newspapers, and magazines written in Filipino. These authentic materials help develop language skills and foster an appreciati­on for the richness of the Filipino language. Another way of making the teaching of Filipino exciting is through Role-Playing and Simulation­s. This can be done by creating scenarios that require students to apply concepts in real-life contexts. For example, organizing a simulation of a traditiona­l Filipino fiesta allows students to learn about customs and traditions. Lastly, collaborat­ive learning by assigning group projects or activities that encourage communicat­ion and collaborat­ion , such as creating a short film or skit in Filipino, enhance language and social skills. By implementi­ng these strategies, teachers can make the Filipino subject more engaging and effective, ensuring that students learn and appreciate their language and culture.
