MAKING TEACHING FILIPINO SUBJECT MORE ENGAGING

Filipino subject plays a significant role in the Philippine education system It allows students to learn and appreciate their culture and heritage. Therefore, teachers must employ different strategies in order to make the teaching of Filipino subject enjoyable. One way to achieve 21st century competencies is the use of technology. Incorporate multimedia materials, such as videos, audio recordings, and interactive games, to make lessons more interactive and relevant. Educational apps like Kahoot or Quizlet can enhance learning and retention. Another way is enhancing visual aids through the use of posters, charts, and infographics to present information in an organized and visually appealing manner. For instance, teachers can create a chart showing the different regions in the Philippines and their respective languages. Authentic Materials can be done to introduce students to books, newspapers, and magazines written in Filipino. These authentic materials help develop language skills and foster an appreciation for the richness of the Filipino language. Another way of making the teaching of Filipino exciting is through Role-Playing and Simulations. This can be done by creating scenarios that require students to apply concepts in real-life contexts. For example, organizing a simulation of a traditional Filipino fiesta allows students to learn about customs and traditions. Lastly, collaborative learning by assigning group projects or activities that encourage communication and collaboration , such as creating a short film or skit in Filipino, enhance language and social skills. By implementing these strategies, teachers can make the Filipino subject more engaging and effective, ensuring that students learn and appreciate their language and culture.
