FILIPINO TEACHER IN FOREIGN LAND

ROBBY L. MORALES

-

With the continued collapse of the Philippine economy resulting from the increase in basic commodities, there are many Filipinos who are considering going abroad. Among the continuous increase of those who go abroad are teachers. Filipino teachers choose to go abroad for many reasons such as higher salary that can provide a decent life for their family. Many countries such as USA, New Zealand, Japan and part of Middle East offer high wages to hire quality teachers. This huge salary is what pushes the teachers in the Philippines to go to other countries compared to the comparable salary in the country. In addition to this, there is more work load and unrelated work of the teacher which makes it difficult for them. Additionally, working abroad provides Filipino teachers with opportunity to gain valuable international experience, enhance their skills and broaden their professional horizons.

Another factor why teachers go abroad is because the schools in the country are not in good condition. Other classrooms are not conducive to learning, limited resources and low social status in the Philippines resulting in a poor quality education. By working abroad, they can escape this situation. Also, they get to know other people and their culture which will make them grow as a person. Overall, the decision to teach abroad is often a practical choice that enables Filipino educators to improve their financial well-being and achieve a higher standard of living.
