GAINS AND PAINS OF DISTANCE LEARNING: AN EPILOGUE
LOVELY JOYCE A. CASEJA
Technology is a powerful tool for progress. It has revolutionized almost every aspect of life, the way we communicate, the way we socialize, the way we work, and now the way we teach and learn. In our school, we are currently implementing modular print, but we are also connecting with our learners and parents online. Teachers are preparing weekly home learning plans and discuss their content with parents and learners to guide them on the activities and tasks that they need to do and accomplish for each day of the week. Teachers either send the plan via messenger or a hard copy of it during the distribution of self-learning modules to parents every Friday. The activity in the plan covers not only those found in the modules but as well as those being aired via CLTV 36. It aids the parents and learners in keeping track of the learning goals that are expected and if they are being accomplished. There is also an agreed time for facetime where learners and parents can consult the teacher on the activities/lessons that they find hard to accomplish. There is also a separate time for ‘kamustahan” where teachers, parents, and pupils meet and casually discuss their day-to-day “feelers” of the learning modality that we are implementing. It is at this time that we let the parents and pupils know that we are their support system. Their feedback, comments, and suggestions are taken into consideration in crafting the next week’s learning plan.
