A CRITIQUE OF THE ASSESSMENT PRACTICES DURING CRISES

$s per m\ experience as a teacher catering and acTuiring Tualit\ education has neYer been more challenging taxing and stressful 7eachers learners and parents alike are confronted with situations that took time before each one could cope with them 7eachers were bombarded with Yirtual meetings focused group discussions webinars and the printing of modules 7his made me think as a school head if the teachers who are sup posed to be skilled re skilled and up skilled are intentl\ listening to the speaker or if the\ are simpl\ logged in 7he same goes for learners who are in their homes and their learning tasks are either managed b\ themselYes their parents siblings other relatiYes or a learn ing aid assistant ,t was obserYed that teachers especiall\ those who are found wanting ,C7 literac\ found it Yer\ hard to adMust 7his affected the wa\ the\ teach communicate and interact with their pupils and their parents 6ome felt depressed about not being able to catch up with the trend ,7 resources and infrastructure are not \et in place making it more difficult for all to go on board /earners seem to drift awa\ from achieYing the outcomes that is intended b\ the department 7he\ are lethargic since the teacher is not there to personall\ oYersee instruction 7he\ do not listen to their parents gaining irate with the latter $s far as the assessment is concerned , am not that confident as to the efficienc\ and effectiYeness of the process in this pandemic )or me written works and performance outputs are not enough to gauge if the child was able to acTuire the .6$9s ,n addition to this not all parents are supportiYe and haYe concerns about the education of their children thus some Must leaYe it to the child or will not send their child an\more to school 7here is also the danger of parents being the ones answering the modules 7here is no reward s\stem honor roll for this school \ear which somehow dampened the competitiYeness of some learners $l though we are looking forward to making education happen amidst this crisis it is our ferYent hope that it did not onl\ happen for the sake of continuing it
