HOW IT IS LIKE TO BE SAD?

Inside Out a well-loved movie by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar is not only just entertaining but somehow features the complexities of human emotions even those of a child or an adult. Everyone is anticipating the release of its next installment.

There was that part before the movie ends where finally Joy gives way to Sadness; an underlying metaphor that somehow the emotion of being sad is also essential so that core memories and the resolve of a person be strengthened talking about being courageous and facing one’s most difficult state in life.

I remember reading a text online, saying that emotions should only be just visitors. But what if, one is already shutting their doors to it and keeps pressing on?

Yes, indeed, two or more weeks might be beyond sadness already but depression. Depression could have a smiling face as they say or be carried well but its effects are deathly and lethal.

Experiencing that is not a laughing matter. Not necessarily self-diagnosis, it is not. But to have a crying spree every night, feeling so hopeless that it grips your insides, and no matter how you try to shake it off and feel guilty for your sadness it does not go away.

Therapy is a good option, but to gain autonomy in the end yes, it is a humongous effort to attain and maintain. When one is alone with his thoughts it is no easy feat.

To cry one’s self to sleep, and to not get festered by emotions, or overthinking is the real challenge. More than having intrusive thoughts and likely surviving each day is something that no one knows linger in the mind of a sufferer.

This is how it is to be sad. And to say that one is making things up is something else and indifferent. But may it likely be a way to tell everyone not ever leave each other’s side. It is not clingy but is a good gift everyone could give to a friend, lover, colleague, or family member who suffers silently.

We must restore our humanity by being attuned not only to the outside of each one of us but also to the dreary inside where sadness lurks and hopelessness thrives. So that no perishes in a blink of an eye…
