DAU E/S JOINS CATCH-UP FRIDAYS

The Department of Education has issued Deped Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024, known as “Catch – Up Fridays” for elementary and secondary school students. This program aims to dedicate every Fridays of the school year solely for reading, values, peace, and health education of the learners. The implementa­tion of Homeroom Guidance program is also included in the Catch-up Fridays.

Catch – up Friday is a learning mechanism intended to strengthen the foundation­al, social, and other relevant skills necessary to improve the literacy of pupils. It will be implemente­d starting January 12 and the succeeding Fridays of the school year. It is highlighte­d by different activities, such as the Project DEAR or Drop Everything And Read. Reading activities are given in oral and silent, individual, pair, and group.

Dau Elementary School fully supports this initiative of the Department of Education. All classroom teachers from kinder to Grade 6 started their first Catch-up Friday activities. Different reading materials were printed for the learners to use. In the morning, classes started the day with morning physical exercises that set the mind and bodies of the learners.

The morning session includes giving of reading materials in print as well as digital for English and Filipino. Math activities like the four fundamenta­l operations were also practiced. An additional activity is the conduct of spelling contest, using words in science and math. In the afternoon, videos were shown about values, peace, and health education. Comprehens­ion questions were given for the children to answer. The children conducted brainstorm­ing sessions, each one was able to share ideas about the video shown, while the other members shared their talent through skits. The first day of catch – up Friday was a fruitful and enjoyable day for everyone.
