CREATIVE BEACON
Designed in 1907 by Spanish fashion designer Mariano Fortuny, the Fortuny floor lamp has an adjustable leg and a movable shade. Inspired by stage lighting, this lamp is a wonderful way to add a touch of glamour and drama to any space. Manufactured by Italian brand Pallucco, the newest version of this iconic lamp has been upholstered in a silver fabric by upholstery purveyor Rubelli. www.pallucco.com
SOLAR ECLIPSE
Designed by Ader Chen and Nicole Chang for the Taiwanese eco-friendly lighting brand Xcellent, the Sunrise table lamp is inspired by the Chinese oracle sun, which depicts the pictogram of the sun with the circle and the centre point. Put this on a console or bedside table to add a touch of warmth to the living space. www.feliix.com
LIGHT AND SHADE
Designed by Italian architect and designer Ferruccio Laviani for Foscarini, the Supernova suspension lamp is composed of 14 laser-cut slabs of seven different shapes with interior discs arranged to create optimal reflection of light. Its beautifully composed form (available in white and fuchsia) makes it a clever way to introduce shadow play and art into an interior space. www.foscarini.com
GO WITH THE FLOW
Winner of the gold medal at the XIII Triennial in Milan in 1962, the Acrilica 281 was created by Italian industrial designer Joe Colombo in collaboration with his brother Gianni for Italian brand Oluce. Its timeless design and beautifully curved form makes it as appropriate for today’s interiors as it was for homes in the ‘60s. www.oluce.com
OPPOSITES ATTRACT
Inspired by the symbol of infinity, Qisdesign’s Infinito suspension lamp serves two functions: illuminating a space, and creating ambient lighting. The big loop delivers white light for reading while the opposite striking neon adds drama to the room. Like day and night, one side is as bright as day, and the other, a starry, dreamy night. www.feliix.com
SHADOW PLAY
Penta’s Pop collection by Italian designer Umberto Asnago comprises adjustable wall lamps that can work well for both modern and minimalist homes or classical interior concepts. Whether used alone or in a pair, the lamp can be positioned to cast atmospheric shadows. It can also be arranged in a group to create an enchanting feature wall. Pop is available in a variety of options: glossy or brushed metal in gold and pink gold finishes, as well as varnished metal in pewter or white finishes. www.penta-arch
TPPING POINT
London-based designer Michael Anastassiades is known for designing lamps with clean lines and a strong graphic language, and his unique style comes through beautifully in Tip of the Tongue. This pedestal lamp features an opaline head that looks like a luminous ball that’s precariously balanced on the edge of its polished brass and silk-braided base.

FLORAL WONDER
Named Chrysalis, this lamp is the work of Dutch designer Marcel Wanders for Flos. It has a diffuser that emanates soft diffused lighting, while projecting a spell-binding floral pattern through the silk-screened glass at the top of its reflector. The lamp has two light sources that are controlled by a dualpedal switch mounted on power cable. The fluorescent tube can be dimmed with one button, while a second button controls the projection cast by the decorative frieze onto the ceiling. www.flos.com
IN THE CLOUDS
Created by blowing liquid glass into a folded and heatresistant vessel, Vancouver designer Omer Arbel’s Bocci 73 pendant lamps have shapes and organic textures that resemble soft fabric. The body of each lamp is made of a ceramic and fabric composite, and it houses a LED bulb that’s strategically placed to diffuse light, giving each lamp an ethereal, cloud-like appearance. www.bocci.ca
MYSTIC PEAKS
Husband-and-wife design duo Sugo created Guilin Gradient Violet in tribute to the majestic limestone karst mountains of Guilin, China. This dazzling table lamp features a rectangular base that incorporates hill-like acrylic panels and LED lighting that emits gradient hues inspired by the sunset. It also has a self-cleaning effect through the process of photocatalysis— the lamp rids VOC (volatile organic compounds) from your environment by using nano-particles and titanium dioxide. www.iamsugo.com
