Legendary ’ 80s band Culture Club reunites for a world tour, stopping by Manila this month

-

he new wave band that brought us hits “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,” “Time (Clock of the Heart),” and “Miss Me Blind” have reunited for a new world tour. Fronted by the famously androgynous Boy George, Culture Club is one of the most iconic and representative groups of the 1980s, having sold more than 50 million records since their 1982 debut, which gave them the distinction of being the first band to earn three US Top 10 hits from a debut album ( Kissing to Be Clever) since The Beatles. Their sophomore album Colour by Numbers ranked No 96 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s, and is also listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Culture Club disbanded in 1986 and got back together for a spell in the late ’90s, coming out with their last album, Don’t Mind If I Do, in 1999. In November 2014, the band released “More Than Silence,” their first single from their upcoming album called Tribes, which is expected to be released sometime this year.

“We’re rewriting the story of Culture Club,” George said of their reunion. “This concert tour will be a new chapter and will definitely be part of the band’s history. And we’d like all our supporters, fans, and everyone to be part of that story.” Culture Club will be performing at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on 17 and 18 June.
