Centuries of Excellence
Gaggenau concludes the year-long celebration of its 333th anniversary with a glimpse of its past, present, and future
It started as a manufacturer of nails, quite a long journey from what the Gaggenau brand is known today—a purveyor of high-end home appliances. More than three centuries ago, Margrave Ludwig von Baden founded an ironworks in the midst of the Black Forest in the town of Gaggenau, state of BadenWürttemberg, Germany. Nails, its first product, was the unlikely ancestors of its current function-focused kitchen pieces. Since its establishment in 1683, Gaggenau continues to introduce revolutionary products to the market. From nails, it went to manufacturing agricultural machinery and metalware, and was one of the first brands to come up with coaland gas-fired stoves, and later, electric stoves. In the mid-’50s, a defining era for the company, Gaggenau forayed into what was then a relatively new concept—creating customdesigned fitted kitchens. It has established a name in built-in appliances and has become a worldwide leader in providing functional and visually pleasing kitchens. The company—which now manufactures ovens, ranges, hoods, freezers, wine coolers, dishwashers, and other kitchen accessories— turned 333 years old in 2016, and began a yearlong celebration of the milestone achievement through an exhibition at the EuroCucina in Milan. Visitors were able to see Gaggenau’s evolution, from its fine craftsmanship in the forge to its stylish appliances using cutting-edge technology.
“It is extraordinary to think that Gaggenau has been 333 years in the making, but our brand values have remained unchanged since it was founded. The ongoing quest for authenticity and uncompromising quality has shaped the Gaggenau identity so heavily. Our heritage is an essential part of our DNA today,” says Sven Schnee, the brand’s global head.
The landmark anniversary wraps up this month with the fourth LivingKitchen held in Cologne, Munich, where the brand’s heritage, evolution, and innovation were brought to life through a curated exhibition. The highlights, among others, include: the EB 333, a remodelled version of its iconic 90cm wide oven; a new flex induction cooktop with integrated ventilation system; and the dishwasher 400 series with a backlighting concept.
“LivingKitchen heralded the end of a momentous 12 months. We took this opportunity to give visitors an exclusive journey through our brand’s history, experience, and innovative spirit,” says Schnee.
