A Matter of Faith
I’m slowly getting there,” said the lovely Ling Ling King when I asked her how she is. We don’t need to elaborate as we share an experience that forever changed our lives. She added, “Let’s get together with the others so we can talk about it; but, you know, I am still not ready to discuss the crash.”
It’s been close to two years since that tragic accident which took the life of Archie King and which I, along with five other friends including Ling Ling, survived. Archie’s widow has shown admirable strength and grace in her battle over grief and pain, which she shares, albeit hesitantly, in the story Living for the Moment (p. 160).
Truth be told, we actually planned for Ling Ling to come out on the cover prior to the tragic event. We were going to photograph her at her yacht where the helicopter was docked, but God wanted to have it differently. She graces our cover now, for the first time, confidently moving forward and learning to live from moment to moment with lessons to share.
We live in crazy times and we need encouragement wherever and whenever we can get it. This issue seeks to inspire and educate, from our Life Lessons feature (p. 152) that asks seven individuals to share their wisdom and experience and How to Live Longer, (p. 172) our list on how to live a quality life by striking a balance between mind, body, and soul. Now if you are really gung-ho to live over 100, check out the unconventional secret of a lady who lived to 110—she attributes her longevity to faith, daily dose of three beers and a shot of whisky!
We all have different paths to take in life and each of us has our own struggles and triumphs. We hope that you get a boost from this month’s issue from our cover story to our featured articles.
A question we asked in our social network section (p. 38) is what or who are your sources of inspiration. Defi nitely there will be different answers—from music, arts, travel, nature, and acts of kindness. My personal source is my faith. It’s truly the anchor of my being. It’s not what only gets me through, it’s what makes me have a more meaningful life. What’s yours?
