Cool Storage
The newest line of cabinets from Lema ushers in a new age in design and functionality
Home storage solutions these days run the gamut from standalone wardrobes to massive walk-in closets that may practically be considered another room. Italian furniture maker Lema takes these solutions to a completely new level, merging streamlined design with tech-forward functionality. Its entries to this year’s Salone Internazionale di Mobile in Milan include pieces that add a hint of practical elegance to the home.
Lema’s Armadio al Centimetro modular wardrobe enables homeowners to craft a cabinet to suit any limitations with regard to space. It is a modular system that offers complete freedom thanks to a wide range of available modules that can be adapted in terms of height, width and depth. By simply changing the door design, the Armadio al Centimetro can be transformed into an infinite array of closets.
Lema has also added a range of accessories with which to enhance the functionality of the Armadio al Centimetro: the dressy Comfort which adds an air of elegance matched by the high quality standard the brand adheres to; and Tech which merges innovative materials and eye-pleasing hues that command visual impact. Both feature warm, stylish interior lighting to show off new mouldings and handles in sand and bronze finishes.
One particular innovation that sets Lema’s closets apart from the rest of the pack is a patented air cleaning system, the fruit of over a year of research carried out in collaboration with the engineering department of one of Italy’s most prominent universities. Fitted discreetly into the top of the wardrobe, Lema’s air cleaning system is capable of decontaminating and significantly removing bacteria and odours present from whatever is stored inside the closet; a real boon to city dwellers who want to significantly decrease external contaminants in the home. This unique innovation uses Dust Free Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO technology developed for sanitising aerospace environments) which generates a photochemical reaction thanks to the interaction of nanotechnology and a special UV lamp. With the help of a natural active ingredient, pollutants such as bacteria and mildew are eliminated, thereby purifying the wardrobe interior and removing more than 90 per cent of those unpleasant odors that collect on shoes and clothing.
In addition, Lema’s walk-in-storage solutions are perfect for homeowners who want to add sophistication to their bedrooms and dressing areas. For 2017, new models Novenove by Officinadesign Lema and Hangar designed by Piero Lissoni with a new melamine canvas finish are both geared towards the creation of a truly private personal space, a safe refuge that elevates the closet from mere storage function into an actual room as it is further embellished with built-in seats as well as functional accessories. For the craftsmen at Lema, these walk-in-closets go beyond luxury and double as an expression of one’s state of mind.
