Audemars Piguet’s 40-year commitment to creating the finest timepieces for ladies remains in top form
came in 2008, and the Royal Oak Diamond Pave followed in 2011. Only the purest, most colourless diamonds were selected to create this timepiece—not a single flaw is perceptible, even under a magnifi er. Each diamond is cut into a customised baguette shape to achieve a paving that entirely covers the gold surface beneath. A new size was launched in 2012 in the form of the 37mm Royal Oak Selfwinding, while a new blue dial followed four years later for the Royal Oak Quartz in Yellow Gold.
For the 40th anniversary of its ladies’ timepieces, Audemars Piguet unveils the new Royal Oak Frosted Gold, a contemporary reinvention of a timeless classic. Created in collaboration with Florentine jewellery designer Carolina Bucci, it is a nod to all the female designers who have contributed to the Royal Oak legacy. The timepiece comes in a hammered case and in two sizes and colours: pink gold and white gold. Its dial is hallmark Royal Oak with the “grande tapisserie” pattern and gold luminescent coated hour markers and hands. The 33mm watches run on a quartz movement, while the larger 37mms are equipped with a mechanical self-winding movement. Its defining feature is its characteristic sparkle, an effect of a surface treatment called the Florentine technique. This process involves hammering on the gold with a diamondtipped device, creating indentations that sparkle when they catch light.
From Jacqueline Dimier and the Royal Oak Dame to Carolina Bucci and the Royal Oak Frosted Gold, Audemars Piguet’s 40year commitment to creating the finest timepieces for ladies remains in top form. This storied evolution is a testament to how the watchmaking industry—once wholly perceived as one dominated by men—has changed to make room for women.
