Influence—Who Has It?

-

nfluence. Who has it? In the world of style, beauty, and fashion, influence used to belong to a select few: mostly magazine and newspaper editors, designers, and tastemakers.

But in the last couple of years, fashion bloggers and social media influencers have emerged: a new creature that, in a way, has spawned commerce and created a demand for the products and services being purveyed out there in the market. Are they for real? Are they just a trend? Let time tell.

On the cover of our bi-annual Fashion Issue, we feature three of the top influencers in the country: Heart Evangelista-Escudero, Kim Jones, and Liz Uy. These women exude style and fashion—you can see it in the way they dress, live, and speak. Combined, they have a growing social media following of about 4 million—and, in this digital age, the name of the game is how many followers you have.

In this pictorial by BJ Pascual, one of the best photographers in the country, it was such a visual treat to see these women all dressed up, as they personally chose their clothes. Their styles varied from relaxed and avant-garde to elegant and classic, but everything put together with impeccable taste.

We also offer three huge fashion stories. First is an exclusive interview with the iconic shoe and accessories designer Christian Louboutin, who was in town last November and even attended the Philippine Tatler Ball. Our regular designer dossier, a compilation of the latest international runway collections, will surely be of interest. Finally, a sizzling shoot which took us to Kandaya Resort in Cebu.

You may want to linger in our Checking In pages for the story “Triple Treat” which highlights the three properties of The Royal Portfolio in South Africa: Silo Hotel (in the city), La Residence (in the vineyards), and Royal Malewane (on the safari tr ail). All are highly recommended destinations.

Then, of course, we have “The 400 List,” our definitive annual guide to the most prominent, social, and relevant personalities in Philippine high society. Next month we will unveil our new Gen T list of individuals under 40 who are making a name for themselves.

In the meantime, enjoy this rich fashion issue we have especially ‘styled’ for you.
