Josh Groban serenades Manila once more; The Phantom of the Opera haunts the Philippine stage; Ballet Philippines presents a Shakespearean classic

Known for his soulful baritone voice, American singer Josh Groban returns to the Philippines on the Manila leg of his Bridges Tour. Slated for 22 February 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, the post-Valentine concert features tracks from Bridges, Groban’s eighth studio album. Released by Reprise Records in September 2018,

Bridges is Groban’s first album in five years to feature original material. (2015’s Stages was made up of songs from the greatest Broadway musicals.) Groban himself co-wrote nine of the 12 tracks, including “We Will Meet Once Again” where he sings in duet with acclaimed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Covers on the album include the Paul Simon classic “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” and “S’il Suffisait d’Aimer” [If it Were Enough to Love] which was originally sung by Celine Dion in 1988.

Groban has said of the album, “I just dove into writing. There are some albums... where you’re pouring out idea after idea. I’ve had sad albums in the past and I wanted an album that had an uplifting spirit, for my psyche and also for the psyche of listeners. I think we all need that.”

The one-night performance marks Groban’s second trip to the Philippines since his Awake Tour in 2007.
