15 FEBRUARY TO 10 JUNE Famous for housing the largest collection of Rembrandt’s art in the world, the Rijksmuseum is marking the 350th anniversary of the Dutch master’s death with a series of exhibitions and events under the title Year of Rembrandt. Opening the commemorations is an exhibition of the museum’s entire Rembrandt collection—22 paintings, 60 drawings, and more than 300 prints. rijksmuseum.nl
MONUMENTAL JOURNEY: THE DAGUERREOTYPES OF GIRAULT DE PRANGEY METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART, NEW YORK
UNTIL 12 MAY In 1842, historian, archaeologist, artist, and photographer JosephPhilibert Girault de Prangey embarked on a three-year journey around the eastern Mediterranean that resulted in a pioneering body of photographic work, including the first surviving photographs of Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and Jerusalem, as well as some of the first daguerreotypes of Italy. HEAVEN AND EARTH IN CHINESE ART ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, SYDNEY
2 FEBRUARY TO 5 MAY The collection of Chinese art at Taipei’s National Palace Museum is one of the best in the world and rarely travels away from home.
