PH bowler advances to BWC 2nd round

Krizziah Lyn Tabora compiled 3847 pinfalls in 18 games Wednesday to check in seventh place and virtually clinch one of the 24 ladies’ qualifying slots in the second round of the 53rd Bowling World Cup internatio­nal finals in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Tabora, now in her second crack at the world title after representi­ng the Philippine­s in the 2012 competitio­n in Poland, averaged 213.83 after shooting a high game of 264.

Sweden’s Jenny Wegner remained on top of the 54-country field with 4096, followed by Australia’s Rebecca Whiting (3970), Germany’s Vanessa Timter (3942), Colombia’s Rocio Restrepo (3927), Mexico’s Maribel Orozco (3865) and Malaysia’s Siti Safiya Amirah Abdul Rahman (3851).

Meantime, Cebu-based Jomar Roland Jumapao found himself in a more difficult situation to make it to the next round.

After 18 games, Jumapao tallied 3581 pinfalls to drop from 23rd to 30th – 49 pins behind current 24th finisher Nan Feng of China.

England’s Ray Teece carded 4020 in 18 games to set the pace in the 64-man field.

Colombia’s Oscar Rodriguez checked in second with 3951, followed by the USA’s Jakob Butturff (3950), former frontrunni­ng Arturo Estrada of Mexico (3946), Italy’s Nicola Pongolini (3915), Finland’s Niko Oksanen (3896), Sweden’s James Gruffman (3895), Belgium’s Mats Maggi (3861), Germany’s Oliver Morig (3859) and Hong Kong’s Siu Hong Wu (3852).
