How William Thio found Ate Guy
JUST A THOUGHT: “Man should forget his anger before he lies down to sleep.” – Mohandas Gandhi
FINDING HIS PLACE: Happy to have found his niche in broadcasting, former actor wannabe William Frederick Thio says he finds his new program, “Spotlight,” a breather from hard news.
William has taken over the hosting chores of the weekly interview program from Daniel Razon, top man of UNTV. The chat show airs every Saturday, 4:30 to 5 p.m.
He cites one of his most recent interesting interviews on the show, the one with Nora Aunor.
“I found Ate Guy completely warm and humble. Not for a moment did she make one feel she’s the superstar that she is,’’ he stated.
The Nora interview was aired in time for the 50th anniversary celebration of the superstar last October.
NOT LIMITED TO SHOWBIZ: William said “Spotlight” isn’t limited to showbiz interviews. In the horizon are interviews with other prominent personalities in public service, sports, the arts, business. He hopes the 30minute conversation will allow viewers a first-hand knowledge of the man or woman behind the celebrity and in the process, offer lessons on how to make it in life.
Aside from featuring their professional achievements, the program gives viewers a glimpse into their quirks, habits and hobbies.
Other episodes of “Spotlight” feature interviews with Ben-hur Villanueva, Visual Artist; Jordan Mang-osan, solar painter; and Robin Nievera, Wish FM DJ and songwriter.
CHARITY COMPONENT: William stressed that UNTV’s orientation is towards information and public service. The network is heavy into rescue operations especially in times of danger or calamity.
“Our programs, even ‘Spotlight,’ usually carry a charity component.’’
William has been with UNTV for five years. He jumpstarted his career at ABS-CBN where he was groomed as a matinee idol. Those were the days, he sighs.
Prior to hosting “Spotlight,” William hosted Solar Entertainment’s legal aid program, “At Your Service” and the long running public service show, Damayan, originally hosted by actress and well known charity worker, Rosa Rosal.
Incidentally, William is a grand nephew to Ms. Rosal.
THE KASANGBAHAY
NETWORK: UNTV is the pioneer on drone journalism in the country, utilizing aerial drones for live news coverage, traffic updates and rescue operations.
UNTV goes by the tagline, “The Kasangbahay Network”, a network for groups of people living together as a family.
