Surigao folk trained on woodcraft
FAMILIES in Barangay Cagdianao, Claver, Surigao del Norte now have an additional source of livelihood as 80 members of the community recently received woodcrafts training through the support of the Annual Social Development and Management Program of Platinum Group Metals Corp.
PGMC provided financial assistance and aided in the procurement of materials and equipment that were used during the training.
The participants, who belong to the marginalized sectors of the community and some seasonal workers of PGMC, were taught by a team of expert wood arts producers under the management of Philexport Caraga. They learned how to handle equipment and process raw materials to produce saleable products such as keychains, decoratives, accessories, and other woodcraft items.
After the training, the participants will be formed into a people’s organization which will be responsible for the production of wood arts and products that will be sold and distributed primarily to Philexport Caraga.
“To achieve a successful and sustainable livelihood project, we will continue to monitor and manage the operations of the beneficiary organization until they become self reliant,” said Corsino Odtojan, Vice President for Operations of PGMC.
A third party accounting firm will be tasked to review and develop the bookkeeping undertakings of the organization for a more organized and systematic utilization and documentation of funds.
