‘Victor Magtanggol’ bites the dust

Looks like ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano’ will continue its reign on primetime TV

IT looked quite promising at the onset: big star, big production values, ambitious storyline...

We were actually personally rooting for it to succeed; anchoring our hope on show director Dominic Zapata’s claim they’re out to offer local viewers something new. And with show star Alden Richards also promising to give his all to the project, we thought, this is it, this is the one that will finally end Cardo Dalisay’s adventures. Alas, it wasn’t.

“Victor Magtanggol” was plagued from the beginning, with critics deeming it mere copycat of Marvel’s “Thor” even before the pilot aired.

Of course, GMA vehemently shot the notion down but the damage has been done. Every subsequent episode received profound inspection; with bashers pouncing on whatever they think was a grave error or gaffe in terms of costume, effects, among others.

But production kept at it. Hoping against hope that sheer tenacity will eventually do the trick.

For sure, all concerned tried their darnedest to make it work too, but in the end, “Victor Magtanggol,” just like several other shows before it, had to raise the proverbial white flag.

But did they really?

According to Redgie Magno, GMA’s Vice President for Drama Productions, they didn’t.

She was quoted in a Pep report saying the show is ending on Nov. 16 simply because it “has completed its full intended run.”

And that’s that.
