Brgy chief accused of mauling asked to yield
The Local Government chief has urged a Manila barangay chairman and his personnel who were allegedly involved in mauling a 16-yearold boy in Sta. Cruz, Manila to surface and yield to authorities.
Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año called on Barangay 350 Chairman Felipe Jr. Falcon to be "man enough to face the consequences of his actions."
"Being a public servant, maging accountable ka at maging responsible sa ginagawa mo. Pakita mo na ikaw ay isang tunay na public servant. Bibigyan ka naman namin ng due process," he said.
Report showed that Falcon allegedly beat up a 16-year-old boy who did not recognize him and instead called him "kagawad" (councilor) last November 3.
Due to the incident, the victim sustained head wounds and had to go to the hospital for his injuries.
Should the victim file a case at the Office of the Ombudsman, Falcon and his five other personnel might be suspended pending the result of the investigation.
Año said they will not tolerate any abuse, especially done by elected officials who should act as public servants.
"Kailangan dito ay ipinakikita natin ang pagiging tunay na public servant at walang abusong ginagawa," he stated.
The DILG chief added that the Department will also file administrative charges against the barangay chairman and his council members who were allegedly involved in the incident.
