Alamin Kay Kuya Kim

- Kim Atienza

THESE days, it isn’t uncommon to hear stories of friends or acquaintances contracting some illness or other.

I was shocked to hear about a well-known and talented singer suffering from loss of memory so early in life. She’s only in her 50s.

For the benefit of senior citizens, who may worry about brain health, here’s a report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The neurologists behind the report claim that ways to stave off mental decline include exercise, controlling blood pressure, and

brain training.

There are no proven ways, but these three can help, according to the report as quoted by an Associated Press story.

Increased physical activity, doctors say, is healthy for the brain. The report says, “Similar to the blood pressure advice, what’s good for the heart has long been deemed good for the brain.’’

The report stated that while the evidence is encouraging, it is inconclusive, however.

O, siya, mag-exercise tayo tuwing umaga, kanta nga ni Yoyoy Villame.
