₱1-M smuggled medicines seized

The National Bureau of Investigat­ion (NBI) seized smuggled Chinese medicines worth around P1 million at a warehouse in Bacoor, Cavite.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor said the items were confiscate­d last Tuesday during an operation conducted by the NBI’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU) in coordinati­on with the Bureau of Customs Intelligen­ce and Investigat­ion Service (BoC-CIIS).

Using a BoC-issued Letter of Authority (LoA) to visit and inspect, Distor said agents of the NBI-SAU went to the warehouse a er receiving informatio­n that unidentifi­ed persons were involved in the smuggling of Chinese goods including cigarettes.

“During the operation, a room was found containing assorted Chinese medicines and upon inquiry, it was learned that a certain Tian Qin, a Chinese national, owns the said medicines,” the NBI said in a statement.

The NBI said 10 boxes of assorted Chinese medicine worth around P1 million were found and turned over to the BoC.

The agency said the Food and Drugs Administra­tion (FDA) will examine the medicines..
