Posh subdivision opens roads to motorists soon

Corinthian Gardens, an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City, will soon open its roads to motorists to ease traffic on EDSA.

Homeowners have agreed to make their exclusive roads accessible to private motorists to help decongest traffic on EDSA, an official of the Inter-Agency on Traffic said.

Manuel Gonzales, I-ACT deputy chief traffic officer, said the homeowners association, in a meeting with the I-ACT, have agreed “in principle” to open roads inside the gated Corinthian Gardens as alternative routes to address the terrible traffic situation on EDSA.

“Under the leadership of MMDA officer-in-charge Tim Orbos, we were able to lay down our plans and seek their cooperation,” said Gonzales during the agency’s radio program over DZBB radio.

Gonzales described their meeting as productive after they were able to convince the homeowners association that they can help ease traffic on EDSA.

Once opened, private motorists coming from Ortigas Ave. Extension in Pasig City can take them to EDSA and vice versa in just a few minutes.

“Many motorists will benefit from this, especially during rush hour traffic where there is a high volume of vehicles,” Gonzales noted.

Gonzales said that Corinthian residents laid down security prerequisites before they allowed the use of their roads.

“Such concerns and procedures will be ironed out to ensure the safety of the homeowners while guidelines will be set for the use of roads,” he noted.

Gonzales said a memorandum of agreement between I-ACT and homeowners association will be drafted as soon as conditions, particularly security, have been met.
