F2 tossers eye 3rd win

Games Today (Malolos Sports and Convention Center) 4 p.m. – Iriga City vs Cignal 6 p.m. – F2 Logistics vs Cocolife

Title contender F2 Logistics intends to sustain its unbeaten start against dangerous Cocolife today as the 2017 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix goes to Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.

The Cargo Movers are gunning for their third straight victory in their 6 p.m. encounter with the Asset Managers who are also determined to sustain their resurgence after a sluggish start.

“We’re off to a good start,” said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus, satisfied with his charges’ collective performance in a four-set win over powerhouse Petron over the weekend and a straight-set triumph over Sta. Lucia Realty last Tuesday.

Clashing at 4 p.m. are Cignal and newcomer Iriga City.

The HD Spikers (1-3), losers of their last two matches, are raring to get back on track and stay within mid-pack of the nine-team field while the Oragons are also out to stop a two-game slide since losing top local hitter Grethcel Soltones to a one-year suspension for violating the tourney’s “one-league policy.”

Much of the spotlight, however, is expected to focus on the main match, with the Cargo Movers expecting nothing less than a tough grind against the Asset Managers who are riding high on a two-game winning streak.

“I watched their game against UST and they still won convincingly even if Tina (Salak) didn’t play,” said de Jesus, referring to Cocolife’s evergreen setter who’s been the key to the Asset Managers’ potent attack.

“Cocolife is on a different level whenever Tina is around. That’s something we have to address. We have to prepare hard because this team is a veteran team.”

Indeed. Aside from Salak, grizzled veterans Mary Jean Balse, Joanne Bunag, Michele Gumabao and libero Denden Lazaro are out to provide strong support to imports Taylor Milton and Tai Manu-Olevao.

Tipped to show the way for the Cargo Movers are touted American import Kennedy Bryan and Venezuelan Maria Jose Perez alongside local stars Kianna Dy, Aby Marano, Kim Fajardo and libero Dawn Macandili.
