Hitchhikers slay cop who offered them ride

DAVAO CITY – A police officer died after offering a ride to his own killers Monday morning, in Purok 5, Sitio Luman, Brgy. New Valencia, Tugbok, here.

The fatality was identified as PO3 Wilfredo Bansag Garol, Jr., 34 year old, married, and a resident of Rubber Village, Calinan.

According to the initial investigation, Garol had just dropped off his wife to work, when he obliged two men who asked for a lift on his motorcycle.

The same two men would repeatedly shoot Garol a few minutes later, even going on to escape on board his motorcycle.

Garol was assigned at the Baguio District police station.

Police Regional Office XI regional director PCSupt Manuel Gaerlan denounce the killing of Garol as both “senseless” and “cowardly.”

“He was a good public servant, police officer and loving husband,” he added.
