- (Dhel Nazario)

An awol cop was gunned down while his cohort was injured after they were shot by the police officer they attempted to kill Sunday in Muntinlupa City.

The fatality was identified as Pedro Delgado, a former PNP personnel who was last assigned in Mindanao. His cohort was identified by police as Alfredo Alcaraz, a beerhouse boy residing in Muntinlupa City.

The victim, PO1 Danilo Cuambot, currently assigned to the Libertad PCP in Pasay City, came out unscathed after the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the incident occurred at 5 in the afternoon at Soldiers Hill, Alabang, Muntinlupa. The motorcycle riding gunmen fired upon PO1 Cuambot who was driving his red Toyota Vios.

The police officer managed to retaliate and shoot back resulting to the immediate death of Delgado, and wounding of Alcaraz. Delgado was identified through his identification card and also by responding policemen since he was a former member of the Muntinlupa City Police Station.

According to authorities, the real target of Delgado is Rommel Cuambot, the father of PO1 Cuambot. The victim might have been mistaken by the suspects as his father.

They added the this was the second attempt on the life of Rommel after he was also injured some years ago in an ambush. Police are eyeing land dispute as possible motive in the incident.

Delgado was formerly assigned in the Muntinlupa CPS before being reassigned to MPD NCRPO and then reassigned to Mindanao. He reportedly went AWOL and was dismissed from the service.

Aside from this, he also has a standing Warrant of Arrest for Carnapping, illegal Discharge of firearm and illegal Possession of firearm some years ago.

He is also considered a high value target of the Muntinlupa CPS.
