Torre loses

Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales halved the point with his sixth round opponent while GM Eugene Torre suffered a stinging defeat in the XLI Open Internacional de Barbera del Valles in Spain on Monday.

Gonzales drew with GM Stella Andrea of Italy to slightly improve to 4 points for a share of ninth to 20th places, still one and a half points behind solo leader International Master P. Iniyan of India.

Torre, for his part, remained at 3.5 points for 25th to 38th places after succumbing to IM Asis Gargatagli Hipolito of Spain.

At 39th to 55th places was Woman Grandmaster Janelle Frayna, who split the point with India’s Deepak Katiyar for 3 points to join International Master John Marvin Miciano, who lost to Adrian Jimenez of Spain.
