Ex-NPA leader arrested

CAMP NAKAR, Lucena City – A former leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Quezon was arrested by authorities at Sitio Aromahin Barangay Talisay, San Andres, here.

Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) director Senior Superintendent Rhoderick C. Armamento identified the suspect as Rolando Carandang, alias Ka Michael, a former platoon leader of Komiteng Sangay Sa Platoon (KSPN) Berto under the Ka June Guerilla Front 41 of the NPA.

A warrant of arrest was issued for Ka Michael by Judge Maria Chona E. Pulgar of the Calauag Regional Trial Court for the crimes of double murder and multiple attempted murders under criminal case numbers 14-6573-C to 146574-C.

Armamento said the suspect had stayed for some time in Masbate in 2014 after he was wounded in an encounter in Barangay Sta. Catalina in Lopez town.

Ka Michael is presently under the custody of San Andres police. He is set to be transferred to the Gumaca District Jail.
