It’s apt time for Ravena to turn pro

- By JONAS TERRADO

Kiefer Ravena is not only making a great impression as probably the best local player of Chooks To Go Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, but also validating most observers’ conclusion of his readiness to play in the PBA.

Ravena has yet to reveal his future plans, though his numbers in the club tournament being held in Chenzhou, China only boosts the former Ateneo star’s draft stock with averages of 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 assists for Chooks To Go, which was playing China Kashgar in the quarterfinals at press time.

Before leaving for Chenzhou, the 2014 and 2015 UAAP Most Valuable Player said the tournament won’t serve as a gauge whether he’ll finally submit an application for the PBA Draft set Oct. 29 at Robinsons Place Manila.

Since finishing his Ateneo career two years ago, Ravena served as a developmental player for the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League before playing two games for Alab Pilipinas in the semifinals of the ASEAN Basketball League last April.

“If ever man maka-decide ako – kung dun sa China or even after this (Champions Cup) – this tournament is for me to help Chooks To Go Pilipinas to win as many games as we can. This is my first FIBA Asia (Champions) Cup and I wanna make the most out of it,” Ravena said during the team’s sendoff last Sept. 19.
