TIP faces St. Joseph

Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) battles winless St. Joseph College-Bulacan today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.

Needing a winning streak of their own to close in on leaders – Diliman College, Centro Escolar University and Olivarez College – the Engineers should win convincingly in their 12 noon showdown with the Bulacan dribblers to boost their confidence entering the second round.

TIP is running fourth but its winloss record of 2-3 clearly mirrors its a roller-coaster performance which coach Potit de Vera is trying to correct.

Aside from trying to improve its record, TIP is also looking for ways to get better defensively since the Engineers are most likely to face the top seed in the semis if the trend continues.

Diliman created a three-way tie for the lead – all with similar 5-1 cards – after beating erstwhile unbeaten Olivarez, 79-77, last Thursday.

Lyceum-Batangas, which is also toting a 2-3 card, also shoots for its third win against Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas at 2 p.m.

St. Joseph is hoping it will not suffer another embarrassing defeat that marked its first five losses.
