Parents told to enroll kids early for school

The Talisay City Council Committee on Education is calling on all parents to let their children avail of the early registration in public schools for school year 20152016.

In a sponsored resolution, City Councilor Richard Francis Aznar encouraged the parents to register early to avoid congestion during the regular registrations in May.

The early registration already began last January 24 and will end on February 27.

The month-long registration period, Aznar said, will help them determine the number of expected enrollees for the school year so that they can address the problems that may arise during the regular enrollment period like the lack of manpower and materials.

Aznar said the early registration is free and the only requirement is birth certificate of their child, which can also be complied with during the school year.

"We are urging the par- ents nga ila nang ipa- register ilang mga anak og sayosayo aron dili na sila mahasol ilabi na tong mag- 5anyos na ug labaw na tong mag- 6-anyos na aron malikayan ang problema," Aznar said.

The early registration specifically targets all 5-yearolds to ensure their enrollment for kindergarten and all 6-year-olds to ensure their registration for Grade 1.

Incoming Grades 2 to 4 and second to fourth year students who will study in the same school need not enroll as they will be automatically registered in the next grade or year level.

For incoming first year high school students, their elementary schools will submit their names to concerned high schools.

The early registration follows the launch last year of DepEd’s K-12 Basic Education Program, in which all 5-year-old children are required to go through kindergarten.
