PDIC files raps against rural bank’s ex-officers

MANILA — The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporatio­n has filed criminal charges against five former directors and four officers of a rural bank for refusing to turn over bank records.

The PDIC filed the complaint before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati City on January 27, 2015 against the exdirector­s and officers and employees of Banco Carmona (A Rural Bank) for refusing to turn over bank records to PDIC in violation of Republic Act 3591 ( PDIC Charter).

Banco Carmona, located in Carmona Cavite, was shuttered by the Monetary Board and placed under PDIC receiversh­ip on August 1, 2014.

The rural bank directors involved in the case were identified as Perseveran­da Isla, Rosalinda Gatdula, Ma. Cristina Creencia, Rosalie Lourdes Gaco and Roel Nupal, while the bank officers and employees were identified as Irene Zarraga Officer-in-Charge/ Manager), Jessica Basillas (Acting Cashier/ Teller), Rowena C. Rodis (Head Accountant) and Aiza R. Javier (Branch Teller),

PDIC requires documents and records of the bank must be kept intact within its premises.

The PDIC, upon taking over the Banco Carmona, discovered that important bank documents and records were missing. When the PDIC demanded the immediate turnover of the records, the said respondent­s refused and provided unsatisfac­tory explanatio­ns. (Wires)
