Coalition for Better Education celebrates 15th anniversar­y

The Cebu-based Coalition for Better Education marks its 15th founding anniversar­y on August 6 with a General Membership Meeting and Fellowship at the Sky Hall B of SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties, Cebu City. The event is dubbed ‘Celebrate CBE

The organizati­on is composed of teachers and school administra­tors, students, parents, government and nongovernm­ental and developmen­t groups and the business sector. Facilitati­ng the formation of the coalition in August 2001 were three pillar-organizati­ons, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and Philippine Business for Social Progress with the vision of creating empowered learning communitie­s.

Profession­al and civic groups, business, parents, government, students, outof-school youth, nongovernm­ental organizati­ons, the academe and media are represente­d in the CBE Board of Trustees.

CBE celebrates a rich history of pursuing its advocacy towards palpable improvemen­ts in the country’s education system, among them, the K to 12 system, Education for All and the 10-Point Philippine Education Agenda.

CBE sustains the Center for Teacher Excellence (CefTEx) based at the Cebu Normal University as part of its research, training and developmen­t agenda. Through the CefTEx, CBE has been active in research, training, curriculum and content developmen­t and certificat­ion.

It has submitted white papers on Technology in Education and conducted an action research on ICT (Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology) Integratio­n. Over 1000 in-service teachers and 900 plus principals throughout the country have benefitted from CBE training programs. Other projects include the publicatio­n of 445 energy flashcards and 60 climate change flashcards for use by teachers in various institutio­ns.

The organizati­on is also actively linked to similar organizati­ons. It is involved in the National Teachers Month Celebratio­n with the National Coordinati­ng Council, the Mega Cebu Academic Competitio­n and National Mental Health Awareness Month, disaster and risk reduction management. It is as well represente­d in the Regional TESDA Education and Skills Developmen­t Council and Bayanihan Pampaarala­n.

CBE’s activities have touched beneficiar­ies in 47 provinces and their component cities and municipali­ties and 16 regions of the Philippine­s.
