Man stabs friend due to jealousy

Jealousy led a 41-year-old man to stab his friend Friday evening near the Coast Guard Headquarters in Barangay Tinago, Cebu City.

The victim was identified as Jimmy Ponce, 37, a porter for cargo ships.

Senior Police Officer 2 Rommel Bancog, the investigator said the victim was stabbed by his friend, Edwin Sanchez, a porter for a shipping company, after he saw his wife talking with the victim.

"The suspect got jealous since he thought his wife and the victim had a secret affair," Bancog said.

Initial investigation revealed Ponce spoke to the Sanchez's wife to remind her not to leave her children in the street.

However, when Ponce was about to leave, Sanchez suddenly came from behind and without any provocation stabbed him, hitting him on his back.

Ponce was rushed to the hospital while Sanchez immediately fled the crime scene.

Bancog said they are still conducting a followup investigation to locate Sanchez.
