Because of jealousy, a 70-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 65-year-old neighbor to death in Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla town yesterday midnight.

Police identified the victim as Ernesto Resurrecion and the suspect as Paulino Perez, who was arrested in a hot pursuit operation. Both are married.

Reportedly prior to the incident, Perez's wife was seen together with Resurrecion, which allegedly made him jealous.

The victim was sleeping inside his house around midnight yesterday when the suspect allegedly arrived and stabbed him several times.

The victim was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Minglanilla Police chief, Chief Insp. Florendo Fajardo confirmed that jealousy pushed the suspect to kill the victim.

"Gidudahan ni Paulino nga uyab-uyab sa iyang asawa si Ernesto. Iyang belief sa kaugalingon nga naa'y binuang, iyang pagtoo nga uyab-uyab," Fajardo said.

The suspect was arrested and is now detained. Police were able to recover from him a 14-inch long knife reportedly used in the crime.
