Marriott in talks with three developers for new project
Three property developers are now in talks with Marriott International for a possible partnership deal in a JW Marriott Resort project in Mactan island, Cebu.
Cebu City Marriott Hotel director for sales and marketing Cleofe Albiso, however stopped short of revealing any further detail on the negotiations pending the decision of the global chain as to which developer it would consider taking as a partner.
What is certain as of this writing is that Cebu will soon be host to yet another luxurious resort brand under the Marriott global chain, the second JW Marriott Resort in the Philippines, second to Palawan.
JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, named after John Willard Marriott, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Marriott International is a luxury hotel chain, competes with brands such as Westin by Starwood, and Conrad by Hilton as well as, to an increasing degree, luxury brands such as Four Seasons, Park Hyatt and Ritz-Carlton (also owned by Marriott International).

According to Albiso, once finalized, JW Marriott Mactan brings to three the global chain’s properties in Cebu, including the opening of Sheraton Resort in Mactan by 2019.
The presence of Marriott managed properties in Cebu, which include two of its luxury brands, is seen to raise the bar in the industry's standard, said Albiso.
She added that Cebu as a destination will benefit more from the entry of luxury hospitality brands in the province.
Despite the increasing competition in the hospitality business here, Albiso said players are still united in "selling Cebu as one".
The 299-room Cebu City Marriott Hotel is the first property opened by the American hospitality company in the Philippines 20 years ago, in partnership with Ayala Hotels.
The combined forces of Starwood and Marriott provides bigger portfolio of brands which include a series of quintessential luxury and lifestyle names, such as Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels and Edition define a new era of luxury travel, with dynamic brands like Westin, Renaissance and Autograph Collection occupying an evolving lifestyle category.
