BuCor starts drug test of Bilibid maximum security inmates
The Bureau of Corrections has started conducting drug tests for its inmates in Building 14 of the New Bilibid Prison, a GMA News TV Live report said yesterday.
BuCor officer-in-charge Rolando Asuncion said the drug tests are part of their investigation on reports the stabbing incident started after inmates were allegedly having a shabu session inside the national penitentiary.
Clarence Dongail, a former police major turned Building 14 detainee, called the attention of fellow inmates Peter Co, Tony Co, and Vicente Sy for their shabu use.
Tony Co reportedly stabbed Dongail. Tony Co, however, was subsequently killed in the ensuing commotion. But BuCor investigators said first responders gathered zero shabu from the scene where the stabbing incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Justice Undersecretary Reynante Orceo said in a news conference on Wednesday that they are also looking into another version of the story.
Orceo said the testimonies of Peter Co and Jaybee Sebastian seemed consistent with each other. Orceo said that based on Peter Co's testimony, he and Sy went to the sleeping quarter's of Tony Co upon the invitation of Dongail.
Meanwhile, during an initial interview with BuCor officials, Sebastian said he saw Dongail and Tomas Domeña talking to each other moments before he was attacked by Domeña.
BuCor officials said Sebastian narrated to investigators that he was attacked by Domeña right after Peter Co and Sy went to Tony Co's quarters followed by Dongail.
Meanwhile, the TV report said the condition of Sebastian has improved since he was admitted at the Medical Center of Muntinlupa. Peter Co and Sy are also admitted at MCM.
Dongail is the other injured inmate but is admitted at the NBP clinic.
