Pacquiao way ahead of sked for Vargas fight
Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach couldn't be more happier with Manny Pacquiao's current form when he finally got to the Philippine for training camp.
Roach arrived in Manila on Monday to direct Pacquiao's preparation for his November 5 (November 6 Philippine time) showdown with WBO world welterweight champion Jessie Vargas at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Roach, Pacquiao's best pal and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez did a terrific job in getting the Filipino ring icon in shape while he was away.
"We had a great day [when I got here] he sparred really well," Roach told GMA News Online.
"He's way ahead of schedule, his power, speed and timing are very ahead of schedule right now so I'm very happy about that. Buboy did a great job with him."
The much celebrated trainer also echoed Fernandez's observation that Pacquiao is more motivated this time around compared to his last few fights, citing he's gunning for a stoppage win come fight night.
"Getting ready for this fight has a lot more intensity," says Roach.
"I think he was a little bit bored with Bradley because he already fought him a couple of times so he's more hungry for this guy (Jessie Vargas). I'm looking for a knockout – I don't care if it takes three or four rounds, Mayweather watch out!"—
