Meralco guard Jimmy Alapag is moving closer to becoming the PBA’s alltime leader in three-point shots made – now just six away from surpassing legendary shooter Allan Caidic.

On Thursday, Alapag made all four of his threepoint attempts, scoring 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as his team tied their semis series with TNT, 1-all.

But the ‘Mighty Mouse’ not only provided the Bolts a lift on the floor, he also served notice after inching closer to the alltime record. With at least two more games – and possibly more, if they advance to the finals – left in his Meralco’s season, Alapag’s coach Norman Black believes that reaching Caidic’s mark is definitely a possibility for the veteran guard.

“Wow, that’s quite an accomplishment. I’m not aware of the record, but to learn that he’s just six threepoint shots away from surpassing Allan Caidic as the No. 1 three-point shooter is indeed a big accomplishment,” Black told InterAksyon.com in an exclusive interview.

Caidic, who happens to be a former player of Black when he was the coach of San Miguel, retired as the league’s alltime three-point leader with 1,242 treys. Alapag is now closing in with 1,237.

Black believes that Alapag will have plenty of opportunities to overtake Caidic as the PBA’s threepoint king.

“It’s very much doable, but if not this season, there’s always next season because he signed a twoyear contract with us,” the coach added.

“Surpassing somebody like Allan Caidic is a huge accomplishment. The Triggerman is one of the alltime best shooters in the PBA.” —
