Talisay to seize trikes with expired franchise

Tricycle drivers in Talisay City whose franchise was not renewed will now be apprehended, said City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority (CT-TODA) chairman Hiram Benatiro.

Benatiro said that the drivers have been given a 15-day grace period starting October 19 to comply with the new regulation.

He urged drivers to better not travel if they have not complied with the new regulation to avoid apprehension, since CT-TODA has a list of those drivers whose franchise permits have lapsed.

“Mas maayo nga ila sang ihunong pagbiyahe kung wala pa sila naka-renew, nakasabot ko nga kinahanglan ni nila but then sila naa’y kita, ang City of Talisay wala,” he said.

There are around 1800 tricycle drivers running in the city and almost 800 of them have not renewed their franchise, Benatiro said.

“Kasagaran sa wala ka-renew sa franchise kay wala man sad ka-renew sa ilahang lisensya,” said Benatiro.

He added that this is also for the safety of the passengers.

“So anytime naa’y accidents luoy ang pasahero, ang ako gihimu para ra gyud sa kaayuhan sa tanan,” he said.

Drivers can renew their franchise by paying P300 to the Office of the City Treasurer. Benatiro then advised that after paying, drivers should go directly to the CT-TODA so their names will be cleared on the list.

He added that they already have a go signal from Mayor Eduardo Gullas regarding the new provision.

Apprehended vehicles will be impounded at the compound of the Talisay City Hall. —
