At least four people were wounded after a 47-year-old drunken man allegedly opened fire in a public market in Barangay Santa Cruz, Balamban, midwest Cebu Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, Jessie Manigos, pulled out his caliber .45 pistol and started shooting indiscriminately, hitting the victims, according to Senior Inspector Ramil Morpos, chief of Balamban Police Station.

A commotion ensued following the shooting with people at the market scampering their way to safety.

Police said Manigos attempted to flee after the incident but he was immediately cornered by policemen during a hot pursuit operation.

Manigos, a resident of Sitio Sam-ang in Barangay Cambuhawe in the same town, reportedly lost his temper and got furious when he realized that he lost his cellular phone.

Manigos reportedly came from a drinking session with friends.

The four victims, Apolinario Arita, 74, of the Barangay Santa Cruz; Severino Heruela, 33, of Barangay Gaas; Maria Pelago, 57, of Barangay Biasong and Marcosa Gabine, 75, of Barangay Matun-og, were rushed to Balamban Provincial Hospital after suffering injuries in different parts of their bodies.

Police said they are now in stable condition.

According to Morpos, the suspect is currently detained at the police station and was subjected to a paraffin test, the result of which has yet to be released.

Manigos will face charges for attempted homicide to be filed within the week, Morpos added.
