The “Glen of Tranquility”

-

Many single malt whiskies are made with love and care, but there’s only one marries tradition and innovation through years of dedication, to create a whisky that is truly well-made: Glenmorangie.

It’s produced in Scotland’s tallest stills, using only mineral-rich water from the Distillery’s home in the Scottish Highlands, and aged in specially-sourced American white oak casks, only ever used twice, Glenmorangie Original is increasingly sought after by whisky lovers around the world.

The special traditions of Glenmorangie rest in the hands of the Men of Tain, select local Highland craftsmen who, for generations, have dedicated their working lives to the quality and character of Glenmorangie whisky.

Since brothers William and John Matheson founded the Glenmorangie distillery at Morangie Farm in 1843, it has been renowned for employing local men who maintain the heritage and standards of Glenmorangie with skill and an indefinable feel for the spirit – before passing on their knowledge to the next generation. The Men of Tain, says Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation, “have their own way of doing things and a deep understanding of whisky, that has served us well for over 170 years.”

Time, patience and care are key to the story of Glenmorangie. It begins with the waters of the Tarlogie Springs, in the hills above the Distillery. Conditioned by 100 years’ passage through the sandstone and limestone of the landscape, this mineral-rich water is the foundation of Glenmorangie’s inimitable character.

Displaying a warm pale gold color and floral aroma, Glenmorangie Original opens sweetly with notes of mandarin oranges, creme brûlée and menthol followed by hints of vanilla and peaches – a sophisticated yet accessible profile that appeals equally to new drinkers and to dedicated malt whisky enthusiasts.

As with everything in the world of Glenmorangie, they’re not rushing themselves – for good reason. In the marriage of intuition and science, of wood and whisky, time brings out the best in everything. Incidentally, the Gaelic name Glenmorangie translate as “Glen of Tranquility.”
