Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza returns to work tomorrow following a 90-day preventive suspension over misappropriation of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) in 2002 when she was treasurer of the Girl Scout of the Philippines - Cebu.

Radaza’s nephew, Harry, a city councilor, who served as acting vice mayor said Radaza can now scout for possible replacement to the late councilor Damian Gomez who passed away last March.

When Radaza was serving her suspension, Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong served as acting mayor.

Lapu-Lapu City information officer Charles Vailoces told The FREEMAN the services and programs of the city government were not affected during Radaza’s suspension.

Now, Radaza can witness the 496th anniversary celebration of the Kadaugan sa Mactan on April 27.

It was the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division that suspended Radaza over the PDAF controversy.

The funds in question, amounting to P15 million, were those of former Fourth District Rep. Clavel Martinez.

Investigation revealed that Martinez allocated the funds for an anti-drug campaign of the Girls Scout of the Philippines, but the funds were not reflected in the organization’s financial and audit reports.

Martinez was then president of the GSP-Cebu Council with Radaza as her treasurer.

Radaza filed a motion for reconsideration in November 2015 and again on May 4, 2016, but both were denied.
