Mandaue gets lots from private firm

Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luigi Quisumbing welcomed the offer of a construction firm and private developer to donate several lots in the North Reclamation Area to the city government.

Quisumbing said the city is in the process of accepting the donation by the FF Cruz Construction for the road right of way so that the city can maintain the roads for the benefit of the commuting public.

The lot donation, however, will still need the approval of the City Council.

The city cannot act without a deed of donation, the mayor said.

“We are in the process of accepting the donation now but we are grateful to FF Cruz and their ownership and management for continuing to be partners in the City's development and future,” Quisumbing said.

The mayor said he was happy of the move of the FF Cruz to donate the road right of way to the city since they have been receiving complaints about the condition of the roads in the reclamation area.

"What many people don't know is that many of the roads remained in private ownership and the City could not spend public funds in the maintenance and construction of the roads," Quisumbing said.

Once the city council will authorize the mayor to accept the lot donation from the private owner, the city government can begin fixing the road network in the area.

“Some of the road networks in Mandaue continue to be privately owned because during the time that the reclamation was made, the regulations of the road right of way was still not set, that's why some of the roads diha is maintained by the private developer but now after this donation, once this donation will be accepted by the city council, this will be part now of the city's road network,” mayor added.
