Samboan goes 2-0 in Gov. Cup caging

Louie Jay Señagan and Paul Andrew Catipay stole the show as Samboan outlasted Ginatilan, 94-77, for its second straight win under Bracket S2 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-cities/ municipali­ties Basketball Tournament at the Samboan municipal courts on Friday night.

Catipay pumped in 10 of his 17 points that vaulted Samboan to an early 18-16 lead. Ginatillan charged back behind the efforts of their top gunner Hanzel Tagoon , but Joshua Balangkig worked his way out to preserve a 63-59 Samboan edge heading into the final 10-minute mark of the contest.

Señagan and Catipay then put their acts together in a spirited 30-19 endgame assault that sealed Samboan's back-toback victories.

Señagan again topscored for Samboan with 19 points, while Balangkig and Rhon Nelson Nalo chipped in with 14 markers apiece. John Michael France Rosal and Eves Niño Manolong had 21 points in between them to underscore Samboan's balanced offensive.

Tagoon and Niño Indoy posted 26 points each, while Junrell Oracoy churned out a dozen points in Ginatilan's losing cause.

In the other games, Boljoon trounced Alcoy, 93-69, while Dalaguete came up with an 80-64 whacking of Santander.

In North Division 3 action played at the Madridejos Sports and Cultural Center, host Madridejos escaped with a thrilling 88-86 decision over Bantayan, Sta. Fe hammered San Remigio, 94-68, while Bogo City kicked off its campaign with a 10083 drubbing of Medellin.—
