Mandaue. Shell Marine is a global company providing lubricants for over 10,000 vessels, ranging from commercial ships to small fishing boats in over 700 ports across 58 countries. Committed in helping its customers, partners and stakeholders in the industry, Shell Marine provides technical analysis and expertise by educating the next generation of seafarers.

“At Shell Marine, we are not just a lubricants, fuels, waxes and greases supplier. These days, we see ourselves much beyond as a supplier of molecules – we see ourselves as a partner to our customers, stakeholders, for the University of Cebu, a partner to help overcome challenging times of tighter regulations and more complexity,” said Mr. Jan Toschka, Shell Marine Executive Director.

“It is important to educate people on the vessels, how to run the engines, and how to maintain them in their best condition,” Toschka added.

Shell Marine will be providing expertise on lubrication technology to the students and instructors of UCLM, as well as Rapid Lubrication Analysis (RLA) and Onboard Plus Test kits (Cold Corrosion Test Kits) which are important for neutralizing the sulfur and fuel that helps in mitigating the corrosion in the engines, used during long trips to ensure that the main engine does not break especially that the latest design of the main engines is extremely complicated and demanding in terms of lubrication.

Atty. Augusto W. Go, President of the University of Cebu, expressed his gratitude to Shell for honoring their partnership and specially thanked Toschka for traveling all the way from Germany to Cebu for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.

“UC produces the biggest number of seafarers all over the world. In fact, Filipino seafarers man 30 percent of the shipping lines from all over the world,” Atty. Go said with pride, and added that with the knowledge and skills Shell Marine will be sharing with the cadets through technical sessions, future seafarers will be better, and more equipped for the real world.

The Shell Marine and UCLM partnership was sealed with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by Atty. Augusto W. Go and Atty. Nendell Hanz Abella representing the University of Cebu, and Mr. Jan Toschka and Mr. Isaias Culanag representing Shell Marine and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation.
