Livelihood grants, overseas job fairs for Labor Day
In celebration of Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment Region-7 (DOLE-7) will be giving livelihood grants to labor associations in the cities of Talisay and Naga while the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency-7 will host overseas job fairs on May 1.
In a press conference held yesterday, DOLE7 said they will be giving livelihood grants amounting to P691,430 to the Mahayahay-Ayisan Fishermen Association of Barangay Cansojong, P721,250 to the Mohon Small Transport Driver's Association in Barangay Mohon, and P1,003,250 to the Tina-an Neighborhood Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Naga City, Cebu.
In support of the Labor Day celebration, the POEA will also be conducting overseas job fairs in the Visayas, specifically in Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Dumaguete City, Bacolod City, and Ilo-Ilo City, among others.
On top of the overseas job fairs, the agency will also set up one-stop shop service centers for returning overseas workers who want to re-apply.
In addition, POEA-7 will also be accepting nurse applicants for Germany at reduced processing costs, as well as caregivers and nurses applying for Japan.
POEA-7 Officer-inCharge Evelia Durato said that there are thousands of job orders, both overseas and local. All applicants need to do is visit their website to view requirements and to get further information.
One of the major topics taken up during the press conference is the problem of the increasing number of unemployed new graduates.
DOLE-7 Regional Director Elias Cayanong also said that there are a lot of job openings but the problem is that many applicants are not skilled or qualified. Cayanong acknowledged the implementation of the K-12 program as a means to prepare students for the real world.
'Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago' is the theme for this years May 1 Labor Day celebration which will be held at the Sisters of Mary-Girlstown in Talisay City.
