Boholano studes train as effective leaders

-

After experiencing the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that rocked their province four years ago, young Boholanos bounce back with a stronger and more formidable spirit.

They are this school year’s new set of officers of the supreme student government of Biking Technical Vocational High School (BTVHS) who participated in the “Millennial Youth Leadership Skills,” a two-day workshop facilitated by Ricio Rich M. Salibay, the culture and arts development coordinator of the University of Cebu Maritime Education and Training Center.

The workshop equipped the students with the necessary skills a millennial leader should possess and inculcated in them the values of a good leader. It also trained them to handle situations properly, especially during emergencies.

BTVHS is the lone technical-vocational high school in Dauis, the nearest municipality from the capital Tagbilaran City. The workshop is the first of its kind held in the school. The school principal Bienvinido Ocana and SSG adviser Marjun Cerezo were so thankful to the DepEd division office for making their students beneficiaries of the said workshop.

Next to the home, the school develops the youth’s leadership skills and teaches them the values such as truthfulness, honesty, godliness, empathy, trust, fairness, and respect. The participants were saddened upon realizing that most of these good values have been swallowed by today’s defective political system and vowed to help stop the cycle of bad politics.

“We have high hopes for these new set of officers that, after the workshop, they will perform their duties and responsibilities for the betterment of the majority. May every one of them stay vigilant and promote the right of every student fairly and honestly,” said Mr. Cerezo.
