Suspect killed in buy-bust
A suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout during a buybust operation by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7, in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, last Friday evening.
PDEA Spokeswoman Leia Albiar said the fatality was identified as Ronnie Abellanosa, alias “Agaw,” of legal age, and a resident of Banilad.
Albiar said that they received a report from the barangay officials of Banilad regarding the suspect's involvement in illegal drugs.
PDEA operatives conducted a buy-bust operation and Abellanosa allegedly tried to shoot authorities, forcing them to shoot back. Abellanosa sustained a gunshot wound in the chest and was killed instantly.
He had been the subject of previous operations but proved to be elusive.
“Na-operate-an na ni siya sa mga police before, but nakaikyas kay lisod sudlon ang lugar,” said Albiar.
Allegedly, Abellanosa's customers included students, motorcycle-for-hire drivers, and call center agents.
During the operation, PDEA agents confiscated 25 grams of suspected shabu worth P125,000, drug paraphernalia, and a .357 cal. revolver loaded with five live rounds.
Meanwhile in Dalaguete, an alleged member of a fraternity was shot dead by two unidentified men who were on board a motorcycle in Barangay Balud Friday evening.
Police Officer 3 Arnel Calisang said that Chernobyl Bejarasco, 30, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete, was driving home on his motorcycle with his mother and his two-yearold son when two men on board another motorcycle drove up from behind them and cornered them, forcing them to stop.
The passenger of the motorcycle shot Bejarasco, causing the victim to fall to the ground together with the motorcycle and his mother and son.
Calisang died shortly after being shot in the abdomen. His mother and son were left unharmed.
The police recovered one empty shell and live round of a 9mm cal. pistol and another slug of unknown caliber from the crime scene.
Calisang said that they are now looking into the possibility of illegal drugs as the motive behind the shooting since the victim was reportedly a drug user.
However, Calisang did not also reject the possibility of a fraternity quarrel after finding out that Bejarasco was the president of his fraternity's Dalaguete chapter.
